My Personal 25 Reasons Why Aveiro Is The Best Erasmus Destination

I consider erasmus in Aveiro as one of the best decisions I've ever made. What makes Aveiro the best city for erasmus students? Why I would reccommend it to everyone?

1. You always know where to look for erasmus people. Aveiro is such a tiny city, that it is not difficult to figure out where erasmus students are having a party.
2. We love Mondays. In the rest of the world Monday is the day that everyone hates just because it's Monday. In Aveiro it's just another perfect day to go out - clock night in Posto7!
3.  ESN Aveiro. Helpful, sociable and sometimes even more party animals than actual erasmus students - they know perfectly how to "make your erasmus reacher inside". Trust me, I'm an ESNer.
4. Praca de Peixes. Fish market by day, the center of the nightlife after sunset. No matter if it's warm, cold, raining or super windy, if only is it Thursday, Friday or Saturday you will always find people at Praca enjoying many small pubs that are around the square and nearby (including pubs with shitty brasilian music, tiny disco, pubs with rock music, gey bar, restaurants and cafeterias). 
5. University campus. Space. Red brick. Palms. View for ria. All the departments in one, huge area. 
6.  Tripas. With kitkat. Or kinder bueno. Whipped cream, ice cream, porto and chocolate. Or fruits.
7.  "Oh, you're erasmus!". When being foreigner makes you feel like a celebrity. 
8. Bodegas. As one clever portuguse gay told me on my first night in Bodegas: "Now you are laughing, next week you will recognize this songs, in one month you will know all the lyrcis and then, back in your country, you'll even miss them" - and that is so true! Shitty brazilian music will always have a special corner in my heart. As well as lollypop shots.
9. Library. Biblioteca. If Praca is empty it means that the following morning you can meet erasmus people there. If they are at praca it doesn't mean that they won't be in library either. Empty at the beginning of semester, super crowded in exams period, probbaly the loudest library I've ever been to. 
10. Maravilhas. Tuesday. Erasmus party. Anything to add?
11. BUGA. Free bikes. Forbidden to go with them to the beach. Noone cares.
12. Mercado Negro. Cool, alternative space that reminds me so much about similar places in Łódź. Biggest advantage? Fireplace that probably is the reasone why I didn't freeze in December.
13. Orange juice. Fresh orange juice. Big glass that costs only 1e.
14. Crawling distance. I heard the legend that there is a bus in Aveiro. If only you can walk there is absolutely no need to take any kind of transport. 
15. Parks. No matter where you live, you always have some cool park nearby.
16. Desculpe, nao falo portugues. Situation almost impossible in Lisbon or Porto - in Aveiro you have to practice Portuguese from time to time to communicate. Doesn't metter how good your performance is, they always say you're amazing portuguese speaker and appreciate your effort.
17. Erasmus Paradise House. House for erasmus that is a paradise. Paradise for erasmus that is a house. Paradise house that defines erasmus.
18. Praia da Barra. Just stand on the street with your thumb up, be clever, reponsible, careful and with a little bit of lack in few minutes you're on a great beach. 
19. Harry Potter. Yup. I still think Universidade de Aveiro is like Hogwart.
20. Cais Madeirense. Amazing food. Sangria branca. Great atmopshere. Sangria branca. Funny waiters. Sangria branca. "All you can eat & drink" group dinners. Poncha aaaaand sangria branca!
21. Stars. As a person living in a big city I have never thought it would be so cool to be able to see sky full of stars on the way home from the party, but if you're coming home later is because of...
22. ... Fanepao or Doce Aveiro! Breakfast just after the party.
23. Train to Porto. Local, cheap trains that take you to the party. Or aiport. Or Primark ;)
24. Trips. Aveiro is a perfect place to start all the trips around the Portugal.
25. BE. Bar do Estudante. It is like going for the school disco in primary school. Just bigger. And crazy. Sometimes with drum and base, sometimes with old portuguese songs, another time with Dragon ball theme. Always cool.

Portugalia [5] - beach party, ESN events & umbrellas

5 tygodni w Portugalii. Cała wieczność. 

5 weeks in Portugal. Eternity.

Jeszcze kiedy była u mnie Marta jeden z zeszlorocznych erasmusów zorganizował beach party w szkole surfingu, w której uczył.  To była szalenie miła odmiana w tygodniu, w którym zdecydowanie więcej czasu spędziłyśmy na Praca do Peixe niż w domu. Ja akurat grzałam się w słońcu i próbowałam odespać, ale inni świetnie się bawili grając w siatkówkę, pływając na kajakach czy próbując stand up paddle. 

When Marta was still here, one of the Erasmus students from last year organised beach party at surf school he was teaching at. It was extremaly nice to do something different during the week we have spent more time at Praca do Peixe than at home. I was just warming up in the sun and trying to get some sleep but others had a great time playing volleyball, canoing or trying stand up paddle.

Tusia kurcze wyczyść obiektyw!

ESN Aveiro zdecydowanie się nie obija. Działają inaczej niż my, więc wielu rzeczom się dziwie, wiele mnie zaskakuje, a o wielu biegnę natychmiast napisać, bo są do spapugowania NATYCHMIAST (a propos papug, gorąco polecam piracki film promujący Orientation Week ESN UŁ). Staram się być na większości eventów ESNowych. Jak do tej pory byłam na Speed Meetingu (analogicznie do speed datingu ;) proponowane przez ESN pytania były bardzo różne i oscylowały pomiędzy "skąd jesteś?" i "Ile masz lat?"albo "Czy lubisz nutellę?" i "Czy przyłapałeś kiedyś swoich rodziców uprawiających sex". Na początku zabawa była przednia, później pytania zaczęły się trochę nudzić, ale była to świetna okazja żeby poznać wiele nowych osób.

ESN Aveiro don't waste time. They work differently than we do, so many things are strange to me, many surprises me, but many make me run to write about them to my section, because they are awesome to get inspired IMMEDIATELY (by the way, I highly recommend a pirate video promoting Orientation Week ESN UŁ). I try to be at the most of ESN events. So far, I was at the Speed Meeting ​​(similar to speed dating;). Questions proposed by ESN were very different and oscilated between "where are you from?" and "How old are you?" or "Do you like Nutella?" and "Have you ever cought your parents having sex?" At the beginning we had fun, then questions started to be a little boring, but it was a great opportunity to meet many new people.

Następnie ESN organizował City Game - bardzo, bardzo różną od tych, które my proponujemy erasmusom :) Musieliśmy przejść dokumentnie całe miasto (a jak już wiemy da się przejść całe z buta w ciągu godziny), wykonać kilka zadań, zdobyć kilka informacji od localsów i zrobić sobie zdjęcia w kilku miejscach (głownie z logami partnerów ESNu). Świetne było to, że byliśmy podzieleni na wymieszane narodowo grupy.  Nie wygraliśmy, ale i tak zabawa była fajna. na koniec na wszystkich czekał grill i pięknie zachodzące słońce.

Then ESN organized City Game - very, very different from those that we propose to our Erasmus students :) We had to go through the whole city (and we know that everything in this city is in a 'crawling distance' :), perform a few tasks, get some information from local people and take pictures in a few places (mainly the logos of ESN partners). Great thing was that we were divided into groups of mixed nationalities. We did not win, but it was fun anyway ;P. Event was finished with barbeque and beautfiul sunset :)

ESN organizował jeszcze dwie imprezy i fantastyczna wycieczkę do Algarve - o której w następnym poście :))

Podczas pobytu Asi i Piotrka zachęcona relacjami dziewczyn, które odwiedziły Parasolkowe miasteczko, postanowiłam się nie obijać i ogarnąć wyprawę do Aguedy. Ruszyliśmy ze sporym opóźnieniem, bo okazało się,  że było nas tak dużo, że nie zdążyliśmy kupić biletów na pociąg, którym chcieliśmy jechać. Pan w kasie sprzedawał nam po 4 bilety, ale po długim czasie polsko-czesko-słowacką ekipą dotarliśmy do Aguedy, spotykając po drodze przedstawicieli innych narodowosci, więc parasolki przeżyły prawdziwą, erasmusową inwazję.

When Asia and Piotrek were here I decided to not to be lazy and visit Agueda, encouraged by reports of the girls that have been there before. We had huge delay at the very beginning cause we were too much people and we didn't managed to buy tickets on time so we had to wait for the next train. Cashier could have selled only 4 tickets at once so after a loong time we have managed to get to agueda with polish-czech-slovak team, meeting representants of other nations on our way. Umbrellas suffered from real erasmus invasion that day!

Parasolki zagościły w Aguedzie (do której z Aveiro jedzie się pociągiem 36 minut za 2,10e) w ramach Umbrella Sky Project. Znikną niestety z końcem września... oby tylko do następnego roku :)

Portugalia [2] - Dorsz, Brazylia i rekiny

Jakim cudem tak mi czas przecieka przez palce? 

W zeszłym tygodniu odwiedziliśmy Museum Maritímo de Ílhavo , które to powinno nosić nazwę muzeum Dorsza Atlantyckiego, czyli wielbionego przez Portugalczyków bacalhau. Już ustaliliśmy, że bacalhau, to nie ryba, tylko stan umysłu i z ogromnym entuzjazmem oglądaliśmy statek, z którego wypływali rybacy, żeby łowić bacalhau, narzędzia, którymi łowiono bacalhau, wnętrza statku, na którym wypływano, żeby łowić bacalhau, sposób oprawiania bacalhau, muszelki, które można znaleźć tam, gdzie pływa bacalhau, a na koniec akwarium z... bacalhau i usłyszeliśmy co jada bacalhau, ile stopni ma woda w której pływa i jak często wydala. Najciekawsze muzeum na świecie!

How is it possible that time is passing by so fast?

Last week we have visited Museum Maritímo de Ílhavo, which should be called the museum of Codfish - loved by portuguese bacalhau ;) We have decided that bacalhau is not only the fish, but also state of mind and we were admiring the mothership, which was used to help fishermens who catched bacalhau, tools that were used to catch bacalhau, interiors of the mathership, which was used to catch he bacalhau, ways of preparing bacalhau, shells that you can find in the area where bacalhau lives and at the very end... aquarium with bacalhau and we heard what does it eat, how many degree has the water in aquarium and how often does it excrete. The most interesting museum ever!

W piątek Brazylijczycy zapraszali na imprezę do siebie. Normalny umysł nie byłby w stanie ogarnąć klimatu, miejsca i ludzi, bo był to czysty surrealizm... impreza na balkonie, łózko na dachu, mnóstwo kotów i stary Brazylijczyk siedzący przy stole w kuchni. Jak powiedział Hugh Grant w Nottin Hill: "Surrealistyczne, acz miłe". Szalenie miłe! Więcej można poczytać u Patryka

brazilians were organizing the party on Friday. Healthy mind would not get atmosphere, place and people there, cause it was extremaly surrealistic! party at the balcony, bed on the roof, a lot of cats and an old brazilian sitting by the kitchen table. 'Surreal but nice' as Hugh Grant said in Notting Hill. Extremaly nice!

W sobotę po raz trzeci od kiedy tu jestem, uskuteczniliśmy podróż na plażę. Nareszcie bez wiatru, bez piasku wsypującego się wszędzie gdzie tylko się da i z temperaturą wody, pozwalającą na zanurzenie, także kąpiel w oceanie zaliczona! :)

On Saturday, for the third time since I arrived here, we've managed to go to the beach. Finally without wind, sand trying to get everywhere and with water temperature allowing to get inside, so swimming in the ocean - checked!

A już w niedzielę... surfing! Instruktorzy przyjechali po nas vanami pod wydział. Jeden z nich wyglądał jak Kudłaty ze Scoobie Doo, prowadził boso i opowiadał nam o spotkaniach z rekinami, zapewniając, że dziś jest fantastyczny dzień na surfing, bo żadnego nie widział. HA. HA.

And on Sunday... surfing! Instructors came for us to the University. One of them looked like Shaggy from Scoobie Doo, drived without shoes and told us jokes about sharks. 

For that moment i am pretty sure, that I won't be a surfer... Here's the proof:
